Poolfroof Christmas Cake

Nothings actually foolproof, but this is the closest I've got to it. It makes a dense, moist, luscious alcoholic cake that's inclined to fall to bits. Marzipan and icing to hold it together is very useful. Do NOT feed to people who have long journeys to make! )

Special drinks that knock you over

[livejournal.com profile] carolinw pointed me to these rather knock-out drinks:

after I had explained Finnish strawberry punch to her, which is simple:

Dress and lightly sugar a kilogram of strawberries, pour over a whole bottle of vodka, leave to stand in warm place for at least four hours. Pour on one or two bottle of sugar-free seven-up (depending on how strong you want it). It is very, very strawberry-y.-

Mulled elderberry sake

To save on oil for heating, heat yourself from the inside by:

  • mixing in equal parts elderberry juice and sake
  • warming it up for half a minute in the microwave, at 600
  • then stirring in a very generous dollop of honey

Yummy and warming!

Aperol Spritz

This is what we used to drink in Verona -- only lightly inebriating, very refreshing, and just the thing to enjoy in the open air on a warm evening.
